Green Living Seminars
Starflower Experiences holds monthly Green Living Seminars the 2nd Thursday of each month (except July and August) from 7-9 pm. We want to help people think about their life choices and their impact on the earth and learn about ways they can personally lessen their impact. Come and learn how to live a more environmentally-friendly lifestyle. These will be held at the Melville Branch of the Half Hollow Hills Library at 510 Sweet Hollow Road, directly across from the Sunquam School.

May 13: Vermicomposting: Worms eat your leftovers? Yes!
Learn how you can reduce your waste into the landfill and at the same time make some of the best organic fertilizer nature has to offer. Vermicomposting is the process of breaking down organic matter with worms. Red Wigglers are one of the best composting worms around. They look similar to the earthworms in your garden, but act a bit different. Their castings are a gardener's dream! If you are looking to reduce your use of chemical fertilizers/pesticides and lessen your impact on the landfill, vermicomposting is for you! Presented by Lynn Monaco of The Essential Earthworm.

June 10: Huntington's Home Greening Program
LI Green has been selected by the Town of Huntington to act as the lead agency in a town wide Home Greening Program. This ground breaking program will provide services to 2000 Huntington families in the next two years. Find out how this program can help you embrace energy efficiency and the associated energy savings. Presented by Chuck Schwartz of LI Green.

September 16: A Growing Crisis: Keeping Our Children Healthy in a Toxic World
What is causing the disturbing rise in the incidence of chronic childhood illnesses and disabilities? Some increases may be attributed in part to better detection, but emerging scientific studies suggest that common environmental exposures are playing a significant role. From plastic toys to baby shampoo, from cell phones to fast food packaging, learn about making safer choices to protect your family. Presented by Patti Wood of Grassroots Environmental Education.

October 14: Green Roofs
Many people think that Green Roofing is only about installing plants on your building. The subject of green roofing has evolved from installing plants to the installation of insulation, proper ventilation, reflective systems, as well as solar panel installation and much, much more. Come down and get an overview of all of these issues and how they may apply to your building. Presented by Ralph Plotke of the LI Green Roof Alliance.
